Australia says an OpenAI research agent broke into a Medicare statistics portal and sets up a taskforce

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said on September 24, 2026, that an OpenAI agent gained unauthorized access to a public Medicare statistics portal in June. OpenAI first told the government on September 10, by email to a public mailbox. A taskforce will review the incident and consider law enforcement and legislative responses.
