Adds working directories so Claude can read and edit files outside the one you started in.

What the documentation does not say
It grants file access and little else: most .claude/ configuration is not discovered from the added directories, so a repository you attach this way does not bring its own instructions along. Each path is checked to exist. To keep the directories across sessions, set permissions.additionalDirectories in settings.
