Gemini on Android Auto can now answer from your Gmail, Calendar, and Photos
Google began rolling out Personal Intelligence on Android Auto on October 20, 2026. With it, Gemini in the car can draw on Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Photos, Google Maps, YouTube, and Search. The feature is off until you turn it on, but if you already enabled it in the Gemini app, it follows you into the car.

Google has started rolling out Personal Intelligence on Android Auto, the system that shows phone apps on a car's dashboard screen. The feature lets Gemini, Google's assistant, answer spoken questions using data from the Google apps you connect to it. A driver can then ask for a flight gate or an appointment address without picking up the phone. Google announced the rollout on October 20, 2026. Cars with Google built-in, which run Google's software directly in the infotainment system, will get it in the coming months.
What changes in the car
Personal Intelligence can connect Gemini to Google Workspace, including Gmail and Google Calendar, as well as to Google Photos, Google Maps, YouTube, and Search. Google describes two uses: pulling a specific detail out of an email, photo, or saved place, and combining several sources to answer one question.
The company's own examples show the practical difference. Asked for a flight gate and whether the flight is on time, Gemini finds the confirmation email and checks for delays in a single answer. Asked to find the car wash from a photo taken earlier, it identifies the place and starts navigation. Without Personal Intelligence, navigation, music, calls, and general questions still work, but the answers are not tailored to you.
Who gets it, and how it is switched on
Your apps are not connected until you turn the feature on, and you can turn it off at any time in the Gemini settings. One detail is easy to miss: Google says that if you already enabled Personal Intelligence in the Gemini app, the setting comes with you into the car. In cars with Google built-in, personal answers are given only when you are in the car with your phone connected.
The rollout covers eligible personal Google accounts belonging to people aged 18 and older. Workspace accounts for business, enterprise, and education users are excluded, and so are users in the European Economic Area, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and Nigeria.
What Google does with the connected data
Google's help page for Connected Apps says data from connected apps is used to personalize Gemini, to do things for you, and to improve Google services, including training generative AI models. The company says it does not train those models directly on the contents of Gmail, Drive, or Calendar, or on the images in your Google Photos library.
It does train on the summaries, excerpts, and inferences Gemini produces from that data while answering. The same page notes that for a short email, the summary may simply be the email itself. Google says it takes steps to reduce personal information in that material before training.
Turning off the Keep Activity setting stops your future chats from being used to improve Google AI. Disconnecting an app does not delete what is already stored in Gemini Apps Activity, so that history has to be deleted separately.

Google's new privacy policy allows ads based on Gmail, Drive and Photos content that users share with Search
Until October 16, 2026, Google's privacy policy promised without exception that content from Drive, Gmail and Photos would not be used for personalized ads. The new version adds an exception for data that users choose to make available to Google services that support personalized ads. It also says Search may use the data a user lets it access to personalize ads.

Railway asks all users to rotate their secrets after attackers read some decrypted environment variables
The app hosting platform says an unauthorized party may have reached the systems that store customer environment variables, and decrypted some of them. Railway believes the impact is limited to a subset of users but wants everyone to replace their keys. Its recovery guides add that sessions, tokens and GitHub connections were revoked, and that commits pushed during the outage were never deployed.

PHP fixes two critical flaws that let attackers run code on web servers without logging in
Releases 8.5.12, 8.4.27, 8.3.36 and 8.2.35 close two vulnerabilities that, under the right conditions, give an attacker code execution with no credentials at all. Every PHP installation that serves web requests is affected. Amazon says it saw the first exploitation attempt on October 17, four days before the fix was public.
