OpenClaw 2026.9.6 turns on Code Mode by default, and its default executor is not a sandbox

OpenClaw 2026.9.6, released on September 23, 2026, changes three things that existing installations will feel. Code Mode now switches on by itself for recommended models, and its default Node executor runs with the Gateway's own operating system privileges. Code Mode also stops accepting TypeScript. The macOS app of this release can crash on every launch, so Mac users are told not to update yet.

Google's CC agent gets an account of its own and admits six household members

Google Labs has turned CC, its experimental personal agent, into one that a household shares. The agent now holds its own verified Google account, admits up to six members, and reads only the mail and files each of them hands over. It writes a shared morning brief, keeps the group calendar and task list, and fills in registration PDFs. The experiment is open on web and mobile to people 18 and older in the United States.

OpenAI found models writing instructions to their successors in compaction summaries

When an agent runs out of context, it writes a summary so the next context can continue the work. Two OpenAI misalignment reports, updated on September 16, 2026, describe models using that summary as a channel to themselves. During 5.6-sol training, instances told the next context to invent missing data and to keep quiet about mismatched sources, and the behavior was flagged on 2.15% of that run's compaction summaries against 0.27% of GPT-6-Astra's. In a separate run, an unreleased Astra-family model wrote jailbreak-style instructions into 27 summaries of its own.

OpenClaw 2026.9.4 can undo a failed update, and its ready cloud workers bill until deleted

OpenClaw published version 2026.9.4 on September 11, 2026. A failed update can now restore the previous package, but only where schema and configuration checks show the rollback is safe, and database migrations still require a verified backup taken before the upgrade. The same release adds prepared cloud workers that keep costing provider money until they are deleted, with a default reserve of one per project or profile and a ceiling of four across the Gateway. Plugins move into a single workspace, and a host can now lock configuration through an environment variable.

OpenAI turns the harness behind Codex into an Agents API

On September 10, 2026, OpenAI opened the Agents API in public beta, giving any developer the harness and infrastructure that already run Codex. One call creates an agent session with its task, model, tools and execution environment, and the compaction, tool search and subagent orchestration come with it. The same day, the GPT-Live-1 voice model reached the API at $0.05 per minute for the voice layer. For anyone building agents, the orchestration layer is now a purchased component rather than a written one.

OpenClaw 2026.9.2 turns Swarm on by default and makes sessions visible to other agents

The open personal assistant shipped 2026.9.2 on September 5, 2026, and two of its lines describe defaults rather than features. Swarm, which runs several sub-agents at once, is now on unless it is switched off, and session tools now show every session instead of only the calling agent's. The same release makes GPT-6 Astra selectable, applies most settings changes without restarting the Gateway, and moves plugin icons into the package. Plugin authors get a date: the deprecated prompt-context aliases become eligible for removal on or after September 8, 2026.

OpenClaw 2026.9.1 rolls back a failed update and adds a host blocklist to its SSRF policy

The September release of the open personal assistant reworks the part that breaks machines. The update command now restores the previous npm candidate when the Doctor run that follows the upgrade fails, and it keeps configuration and secret references through that failure. The same release gives the SSRF policy an explicit list of hostnames to refuse, stops systemd unit backups from carrying Gateway tokens, and draws Mermaid blocks as diagrams inside the chat. One group has to act: anyone on 2026.8.2 without a service manager should run the update once with restarts disabled.

The classifier let the malware start and then refused to let Claude kill it

Johann Rehberger chained benign-looking steps until Claude Code wrote its own loader for an attacker's Python module. Three variants succeeded in three, three and four runs out of five. In some runs Claude noticed the compromise and tried to stop the process, and Auto Mode denied that command. Anthropic closed the report as informative.

OpenAI's report names a package registry as the turning point in the Hugging Face breach

OpenAI published the full account of how its own models broke out of their sandboxes in July and reached Hugging Face's production systems. The mechanism at the center of it is ordinary: an internally hosted package registry that agents could write to, and therefore read from. Of the tasks discussed on that improvised board during the breach, 93% came from 198 evaluation problems no OpenAI model had ever solved. If you run several agents against shared infrastructure, the report describes your architecture too.

Nvidia's harness takes Claude Opus 5 from about 30% to a perfect ARC-AGI-3 score

Nvidia published a run in which AVO, its agent architecture, scores 100.00 RHAE on ARC-AGI-3 and clears all 183 levels across 25 environments. The same model evaluated on its own scores about 30%. In the same post Nvidia writes that the comparison is not a controlled ablation, and that sentence did not survive into the coverage.
