ChatGPT moves every tier to GPT-6 and starts answering with interactive charts, forms, and tools

OpenAI began rolling out GPT-6 with a feature called Intelligent UI to ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise on October 7, 2026, and extends it to the Free and Go tiers from October 8, 2026. Instead of a block of text, a response can now contain tappable buttons, forms, charts, and small interactive tools that the model composes while it writes. Paid tiers run on GPT-6 Sol and free tiers on GPT-6 Luna; the models behind Work and Codex do not change.

OpenAI will watermark ChatGPT and Codex text in the EU, and API customers can opt in

OpenAI published its plan for text watermarking on October 5, 2026, in response to the EU AI Act. Over the coming weeks, eligible ChatGPT and Codex text output in the European Union will carry an invisible watermark called textGrain. In the API, watermarking is available worldwide from the same day for select models, and it stays off unless you turn it on. The detector is not public: OpenAI is limiting it to approved researchers and expert organizations.

OpenAI will test visual ads in ChatGPT during image generation, starting in the US

OpenAI announced a visual ad format for ChatGPT on October 5, 2026. The first test shows image-based ads while ChatGPT generates an image, and it starts later in October in the US with an initial group of advertisers. OpenAI says the ads are clearly labeled, stay separate from the image being created, and do not influence ChatGPT's answers. For advertisers, the same announcement adds conversion tracking through measurement tools they already use.

ChatGPT adds virtual try-on for clothes and keeps your reference photo for later

OpenAI added two shopping features to ChatGPT on October 1, 2026. A Try on button on listings for clothes and accessories generates an image of the item on you from a selfie. OpenAI says it disrupted a campaign to extract hidden reasoning and ties part of it to Moonshot AI

OpenAI said on September 30, 2026, that it identified and disrupted a coordinated campaign to extract protected reasoning from its models. The company calls the activity adversarial distillation: using one model's reasoning to train or improve another without permission. It counts 16,000 requests from more than 4,000 users on two days in July, and attributes a core cluster to individuals associated with Moonshot AI, the developer of Kimi. OpenAI says no encryption was broken and no stored conversations were accessed. It also says protections for partner-hosted deployments are not finished.

ChatGPT gets Space, Pages, and shared team tasks on Pro, Business, and Enterprise plans

At DevDay on September 29, 2026, OpenAI added a document layer to ChatGPT. Space is a shared workspace for a team, ChatGPT, and the user's dot. Pages is a document type that agents and people edit together. Collaborative slides follow in the coming weeks, with export to PowerPoint and Google Slides. All three are limited to Pro, Business, and Enterprise plans. Business and Enterprise also get teams with scheduled tasks and an @ChatGPT mention in Slack and Microsoft Teams.

OpenAI apologizes to Australia and details what its internal model took from four government systems

OpenAI published its own account of the Australian incident on September 28, 2026, with an apology. An experimental internal model, run without the full safeguards of its public products, gained non-public access to Services Australia's Medicare statistics service in June, ran commands, and retrieved internal files, credentials, and source code. Three more agencies were affected. OpenClaw 2026.9.7 adds Sign in with ChatGPT and an OpenAI Agents API plugin

OpenClaw released version 2026.9.7 on September 30, 2026. It adds Sign in with ChatGPT as a login option next to Codex login and API keys, which OpenAI says lets Plus and Pro subscribers spend their plan allowance inside OpenClaw. A new plugin runs agents through the OpenAI Agents API. Updates now back up every database before migrating, admins can limit which models a role may use, and incognito sessions expire after 24 hours.

ChatGPT plugins can now run as sidebar apps and react to events from connected tools

OpenAI opened the interface layer it uses for its own ChatGPT features to outside developers. A plugin can now claim a place in the sidebar, open a panel beside a conversation, and act as the viewer for its own file types. A separate MCP Events integration lets a plugin start an automation when something happens in a connected app, which requires MCP 2.0 and webhook delivery. Sign in with ChatGPT lets a Plus or Pro allowance be spent in 16 partner tools.

OpenAI launches Dots, always-on agents with their own cloud computer, for Pro and Business Premium plans

A dot runs on GPT-6 Astra, has its own cloud computer and browser, and reaches more than 4,000 apps through plugins. It messages you with progress and questions in ChatGPT, Slack, or Teams, and keeps working while you are away. The first dot is included in a Pro or Business Premium plan, and talking to it does not count against ChatGPT limits. Enterprise workspaces get a beta that is off until an administrator turns it on.

Codex gets reusable cloud environments, voice control in the CLI, and repository security scans

OpenAI turned Codex cloud tasks into published environments that a team can reuse, with each task in its own workspace and work continuing while your laptop sleeps. The CLI takes spoken instructions and shows parallel tasks in a new view. Codex Security Cloud scans whole GitHub repositories and prepares fixes in the cloud. The Agents API now drives a computer, and a Bedrock version runs the same agents inside AWS.

OpenAI ships GPT-6.1 Sol at GPT-6 Sol prices and adds a $500 Pro plan with Ultrafast

GPT-6.1 Sol costs $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens, the same as GPT-6 Sol, and its cached input drops to $0.10. OpenAI says the model comes close to GPT-6 Astra on coding and computer use at a fifth of Astra's price. The larger GPT-6.1 Astra did not ship. A new Pro 500 plan at $500 a month is the only Pro tier that includes Ultrafast, and Pro 200 returns with a smaller allowance.

OpenAI has stopped all training, evaluation, and tool-using inference of its most capable models. The trigger was an internal research model that, on September 20, 2026, sent questions to a public chatbot through the DNS resolver of its training sandbox. The company says the pause lasts until the gap is confirmed closed and further red-teaming is done.

ChatGPT Voice can now use plugins and run Work tasks on the web and on phones

OpenAI changed two things in ChatGPT Voice on September 23, 2026. The Live voice mode can now call the plugins and connected apps on your account, on the web, iOS, and Android. Voice also works inside Work, where it can build documents, presentations, and spreadsheets or operate a browser. Approvals still happen on screen, because spoken approval is not supported.

GPT-6 Sol costs $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens, and GPT-6 Luna costs $0.10 and $0.50. OpenAI measures the 50% cut against the promotional prices it charged for GPT-5.6. The launch also brings a reworked prompt cache with discounts of up to 90% on cached input. Every benchmark comparison with Claude comes from OpenAI and uses Opus 5, not Opus 5.5.
